CBSE Issues Official Statement On Class 12 Result 2026 Controversy

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an official clarification regarding the controversy surrounding the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 and the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system. Students, parents, and teachers across the country have raised concerns over unexpectedly low marks in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.

Several students also claimed on social media that despite qualifying competitive exams such as JEE Main and other entrance tests, they received poor marks or even failed in CBSE board examinations. Following the backlash, demands for fair moderation and transparent rechecking started trending online.

CBSE Defends OSM Evaluation System

In its official statement, CBSE defended the digital On-Screen Marking (OSM) process and stated that the system has been introduced to ensure transparency, fairness, and consistency during evaluation.

According to the board, the OSM system helps evaluators award step-wise marks correctly and reduces the chances of manual checking errors. CBSE also said that the digital process allows better monitoring and uniform marking standards across different examination centres.

Despite the clarification, many students are still demanding a review of the evaluation process, especially for Science stream subjects where complaints have been reported in large numbers.

CBSE Class 12 Pass Percentage Drops

This year, the overall CBSE Class 12 pass percentage dropped to 85.2%, making it one of the lowest performances recorded in the last seven years.

As per CBSE rules, students must secure at least:

  • 33% marks in theory examinations
  • 33% marks separately in practical/internal assessments

to pass a subject successfully.

The lower pass percentage and strict marking pattern have become major points of discussion among students and parents.
